reading through the whole story here its actually a really nice read as an ex developer myself. Very cool that there doing something like this.
I can't say that I've read the story, but I really want it to be something along the lines that Mike didn't agree with the direction Activision is pushing Blizzard in and decided to leave and he's now pursuing something new with the ex employee's to build G O L D.

TLDR: Mike and his wife are funding a parent company that will fund studios to make new games. the 2 currently under that umbrella are staffed by Bliz vetrans. They will have full creative freedom and own shaires in the parent company.

You’re pretty much right. In the piece they talked about funding and the Morhaime’s are funding it themselves and when they do go out looking for investors that will be a key point they keep in mind. They want to maintain control of the company no matter what.
