Labels are an information compression algorithm which serve an important function. That being said we would rather have a shitty map than no map at all and society generates shitty/outdated labels all the time.

Better to just follow the territory than a bad map.

Life is a label and so is a label. Hell, what isnt a label?
-
Ideological labels are dangerous. If you say "Im a x" the mind will confine itself to the implied rules, deviation yields cognitive dissonance, because humans need to be consistent to be trusted by our tribe. (General labels maybe helpful such as I'm honest)
-
What is the difference between a general label like honesty and an ideological label like "respecting your property"? They are all labels on your values and they create a need to restrict your behavior. As long as those ideologies are good the restrictions will be good as well.

When I mention being or behaving as a "X", my fiance replies each time with, "Why do you label yourself?" Enough with the labeling. We are not manufacturer wrapped.
