Probably depends on the individual. I rarely thought about it. But if anything not knowing how flawed one parent is was liberating as there's no reference.

Fair enough. My point was that boys without fathers tend to find one somewhere, whether that's the alpha dog in a gang, or a celebrity idol to obsess over. Looking for dad in all the wrong places.

Father could certainly effect a child's values, preventing things like gang involvement. But we're memetic animals. We copy what we value and as teens we rarely value parents. My guess is mentorship in most cases comes from outside the immediate family.

Children are learning machines. Information is abundant. I think pointing kids into the right direction for wealth, health & ethics is the way to over come any impediment.

Indeed. The problem arises when there is no one pointing them. Not only are children learning machines, they need to learn and will learn anything that is made available to them. And since many adults are basically grown up children...

Nothing applies to all but I think he meant majority. Human beings typically need validation and seek to fill a void. Society and the environment they get raised in is a big part of it.

Your assuming there's a void and a problem. All of us apes are deeply flawed. Maybe not having a random model to emulate is an advantage?

My point is there is no void or anything to fill because nature isn’t meant to give you anything. I was only trying to explain typical human behavior.
