I know I'm 13 years late to the party, but I recently started Okami and wow, it really is so good :O It's fun, it's beautiful, it has super funny characters and dialogs, cool combat system. Wow!
I should really give it a try again. When I started it years ago, the noises they used for "voice-over" when the text rolled drove me so mad that I just quit and never touched it again.

I had a very similar reaction at the beginning, but sorta forced my way through, and after 30min it became kinda cute and very acceptable! Give it another go!
