This is a thing I've been struggling with for YEARS. I can't even begin to describe how stupid I feel, like I'm missing something super obvious?

I usually use a video file and compress it with http://ezgif.com (20 frames, 600px and a bit of compression).
-
I tried that one out, too, but it didn't work with the games I tried it with. I think there might just be too much going on in somewhat realistic graphics?
-
Good point! That does make a BIG difference, just what the graphics style and colour palate of the game is. Think if it's still too big I usually try to make it shorter (tricky I know) or see if less FPS do the job (depends a lot on the game again).
-
Yes, definitely! I switched a lot between different framerates. I'm just glad Fade to Silence has a rather subtle colour palette, if it was too colourful to cut those out AND realistic I'd probably cry.
-
haha yeah! It's the worst when you got a REALLY good gif ready and then it's suddenly 8 million mb big.
-
UGH YES I used to be so optimistic about file sizes and just made what looked great and then WHOOPSIE this is now a 67MB gif ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@DevRelCallum this may help you achieve the holy grailhttps://twitter.com/phi6/status/987719931222482944 … -
With this technique you can easily achieve stuff like thishttps://twitter.com/phi6/status/1036731103892127745 …

This is the first time I got a detailed answer to my question. I did use OBS and ScreenToGif before, but I'll try again tomorrow morning with the settings you suggested! Thank you!

Depends on the OS but my go to is EZgif and just tweaking settings until you get it right.

Also pinging
@antonkudin as he has the best gifs I've ever seen -
Record at native res, if its pixel art don’t scale it. Twitter can take 15mb or less gifs. To reduce gif size try lossy gif compression.

Capture with GifCam, edit down with VirtualDub and optimise using something like this :)https://ezgif.com/
