Went out to eat at a very big and busy place today. Parents at the next table left their child (4 year old tops, maybe?) alone at the table for about 15 minutes to get food from the buffet. Out of sight. COMPLETELY OUT OF SIGHT!

Our table of four, including a mother and father, were shocked but no one wanted to say anything. The mother came back after what felt like an eternity and I told her she shouldn't just leave her daughter alone like that here? And she looked me in the eyes and said "WHY NOT?"?!

"Well because people are evil and might take your child?!" and you wouldn't have noticed shit if I had walked out with her?! "Nah, nobody would take her..." When the father(?) came back she told him what I said and they laughed. What the heck. I'm stumped.
