There is an interesting exchange in our offtopic mailing list about studying game design in colleges. Most people agree that it's a waste of money, and students would be better off modding and participating in game jams. If you're a game designer, do you have a formal education?

I have a diploma in media informatics. Got my head into every interesting class I could even from other universities. Played and made a lot of game play of different kinds mostly non video games. Then kept learning video game development on the job once I got an internship after.

Except the ones that have "game" in their courses title. I paid 570€ a month and it was a giant waste.

Yeah I didn't get a game specific education. I think the problem here is having to pay for education that should be free.

The private schools smelled an opportunity, and it paid off. I'm really mad I actually fell for that, but oh well, can't change it. The only thing that makes it bearable is that I met @valtaroth there and he's a pretty cool dude :P
