Doesn't matter the size. No business is going to eat the cost. It will always be passed onto the consumer. You say they have piles of money saved up for these eventualities? Then those piles came from prices being higher than they would have otherwise been.

yet every business eats the cost, inventory shrinkage around 1.5% is literally the industry standard and goals for each business every year. tbh idgaf if my bagel is .05 ¢ more than usual.. i’d rather be pissed at the owners of the corp stealing my money than a random shoplifter

They're not stealing anything. The government may be giving them stuff, and that I would be all for stopping. But the corporations steal nothing from me.
