    I think has the best analysis on this crisis: a Belarusian gambit that escalated unintentionally, Lukashenko trying to blackmail both EU and Putin, Russia happy to do what it can to exploit the situation

    And another little piece of mine about the ongoing border crisis. It doesn’t look like the escalation was pre-planned but both Putin and Lukashenko are more than happy to take advantage of it (Lukashenko to blackmail Putin, Putin to blackmail the EU)

    Miro Žbirka was an absolute dude when I interviewed him at home in Prague about the split of Czechoslovakia with his (Czech) wife Kateřina. His song made a really great end to the piece and he was utterly charming. Great stories too. RIP Meky.
