    On this day in 1377, Papal State soldiers butcher as many as 5,000 villagers in the northern Italian region of Emilia-Romagna. The "Cesena Bloodbath," as it will be called, is part of a campaign by Pope Gregory XI against rebellious city-states called the War of the Eight Saints.

    Went for a wander in Southampton today, to find ‘the wall’ - and here it is! Etched with the names of American servicemen waiting to board their vessels for the D-Day landing on 6th June 1944. What an incredible little piece of history, right on my doorstep!
