Pittas are one of my favourite things. Bouncy and bright, they lighten up any dull winter day. Here are nine of them arranged, controversially, in approximate order of splendidness.

Thanks all. The consensus opinion is backed up by the simulations I made. Adding pre-treatment sampling makes very little improvement to power, while 2n after treatment increases sensitivity.

I have simulated this for my particular data. I am a bit surprised by the answer, but maybe it is not surprising - hence the poll.

Please lend me your statistical intuition. I have 2n observations before a treatment and n observations after the treatment. Which change in sampling is more likely to improve power to detect treatment effect?

An Ecuadorian bat-pollinated cactus evolved a new trick to attract pollinating bats: muffling sound around its flowers to make them more acoustically conspicuous. Neat! 🌺 🦇

I started my day reading this depressing article. But on the bright side, both of the authors were in my high school class, so huzzah for smart people with public school education making impacts in society.

And here it is. An under-the-radar call to degazette National Parks. Here's my alternative: Take the Crown Jewel NPs, and elevate them to "National Monuments" (like the USA). This avoids losing protections over current parks, and recognises the status of the best ones.
