If a player has similar issues across many teams he has been part of, the only reason I'd take a chance on him is if I had a track record of fixing similar issues. You can't rely on theorycrafting solutions to complex problems that may entail social and psychological issues.
I think you overestimate how conservative many coaches may be. It's easy to believe in your own ability to fix players' problems if you are a decent coach. After all they're only human like the rest of us

I think there is even a possibility that this idea, while irrational, might end up making the person a better coach. (prisoner's dilemma type of situation)

in addition every coach has a different point where they cut their losses on a player. I think Rascal is probably a solid example of a coaching system that never embraced his personality. My guess is hock said "ok, let's just not do what dallas did"
