That's true. Old men like me just wanna see the next thing! There's a reason these games aren't made as much anymore. I understand passing something that's difficult but some old games and checkpoints/lack of continues... I just wanna see the next thing! I think that's OK too!

If you want to see the next thing, you are supposed to earn it. Not have it given to you on a silver platter.

Terrible take. This is not the 80s anymore. The game design from that era is archaic and unfair sometimes. Missed one jump and didn't perform perfectly? BACK TO THE BEGINNING OF THE STAGE.
-
Yeah, and when you beat that level after being sent back a hundred times, you feel rewarded.

Apparently some people took my last tweet as me telling them "how to play their game" even though that wasn't even remotely related to what I was saying. If you want to use the "replay feature" that is fine. There's a huge difference between beating a game and using replay

This is such an angry take. Maybe just be happy people are revisiting old games they otherwise wouldn’t have. Maybe not jam a finger in their face and try to shame them for using an included feature. What does it take away from you? Gaming needs less gatekeeping, not more.
-
I always got my best experiences overcoming challenges. If you have no challenge because you use are using replay, I would think that takes away a large reason to even play it. My comment is intended to help people have a more rewarding experience.

I 100% agree on this and I don’t understand why it’s considered some “hot take”. People hide behind arguments like “just let people play how they want” to excuse mediocrity. There has to be SOME standard, even if the game design is considered archaic by today’s standards.
-
Yes, there must be STANDARDS to how people enjoy themselves! If we can't set a hard rubric what's even the point of having fun?!

When I was a kid in the 80's it was not unusual to have games in your collection you couldn't beat and we just accepted it. Seems like these days if people can't beat every game they own they feel cheated somehow.
-
Exactly. Some games you might not be able to ever beat. Thats the way it works. But some people apparently feel like you can just cheat code through everything and it still counts. I feel like I live in the fucking Twilight Zone.
