My read: a solidly conservative SCOTUS has been Republicans’ holy grail for 50 years, and McConnell is gonna make it happen even if it costs him the Senate majority because he thinks if Dems pack the court he’ll benefit from a backlash and regain majority in 2022/White House 2024

If Dems increase seats to 13, that gives them a 7-6 majority. You can also bet all the older liberal justices will retire before 2022/2024. So even if he takes it back, there will not be any liberal seat open.

Yeah but Republicans could add more seats in 2024 if they win the presidency. I don’t think that’s a reason not to pack the court, but they would do it.

That’s why PR and DC as states has to be part of the equation. Make the Senate more progressive so that finally GOP will want to reform it.
