    The winners were all excellent, you should check them all out - it's so much fun watching do his climate thing - but you should especially check out this dive into climate-friendly burial, because, well, you're gonna die someday.

    I wrote a farewell for Nightly about the lousy politics and reality of climate change. It's a messy war story, not a feel-good drama; Washington needs to fight it like there's no tomorrow, and it's still gonna get worse tomorrow.

    So: Today's my last day on staff , although I'll still be a contributor while I do a book on how to feed the world without frying the world. I might do a bloggy thing, too. (Would you read it?) I'm fired up, and also incredibly grateful to a great company.

    And yes the $3T climate/budget bill that comes next is the much bigger enchilada. But there was zero chance of making it happen without going down this road, and the people who said Biden was naive to try were wrong whether he succeeds or not.

    I’ve gradually ceased to believe that good policy is good politics, but Biden signing a big bipartisan infrastructure bill after Trump failed so spectacularly to keep his infrastructure promises does seem like a rare policy win that could break through today’s information fog.

    My opus on Cape Coral was mostly about an unsustainable boomtown and its lies that came true but it’s also about the truly awful politics of Florida CAVE people who don’t care about anyone else’s future.

    By the way the front for the patient rights groups who were in turn fronts for Pharma and the device industry was disgraced former Dem Rep. Tony Coelho. One of his arguments was that I t would be racist for Medicare to stop funding drugs or devices just because they didn’t work.

    This is super-off-message - because Granholm is 100% correct - but even if we do everything right on climate these extreme weather events will keep getting worse. We still need to act to prevent them from getting way way way worse but it’s a really awkward political problem.

    Obama tried to fund “comparative effectiveness research” in the 2009 stimulus, so doctors & Medicare would know which drugs and devices actually work. But the drug & device guys defanged it, thus the insanity ⁦⁦⁩ describes today.

    By the way, one founder is the genius behind A123, the failed battery startup that always came right after Solyndra in attacks on the Obama stimulus. The other came from Tesla, which was saved by a stimulus loan. Investing in green innovation worked.

    This is HUGE climate news if it’s as good as it sounds. Cheap long-term storage would make a lot of old arguments irrelevant.
