The only reason it didn't backfire violently is because folks like Ameri/Maliki were much quicker to convince others to negotiate w/ Kadhimi behind closed doors, which overall just shows the networks are strong. If there was violence, negotiations failed. For now, status quo.

Violent backlash isn't just day after. Some argue Hisham's assassination was a message to the PM after Albu Aitha. Attacks on INIS are also messages. It's easy to advocate riskier approaches, but lives are on the line. And without strategy, the approaches won't work anyway.
