In the general 2016 election, over 900 ballots were counted because of this same exception. It was another 772 voters in 2018 who were able to cast a ballot under this exception. In the current purge, the state has admitted almost 3K voters were added to the list in error. 2/5

The SOS has said almost 10K voters on the purge list have confirmed or updated their registration. The purge is supposed to find ineligible voters--i.e. those who have died, those who moved out of state, etc. These 10K are real OH voters who would have been otherwise purged. 3/5

At the same time, if we have a voter purge, we need a thorough audit to ensure it is accurate. Provisional ballots should not be a band-aid--they are a case of last resort. It is better for voters to ensure none are wrongfully purged in the first place. 5/5
