    Agree with much in this V good thread by - worth reading carefully

    What have we learnt from UK & EU today - not all that much new. But contrary to much of last phase, both sides on the same page about end goal – a fairly standard FTA. But there are key points of difference, some bridgeable others more difficult. A thread on my personal views 1/

    Quite. The claim that the EU has somehow reneged on a deal that it earlier offered is a straight lie

    Back in late 2016/early 2017, senior EU officials were very clear to me that mix of (LPF) obligations/access would be very different for UK than Canada if UK opted for an FTA. Line hasn't changed; details just being fleshed out

    Yep. A lot of twitter (correctly) focusing on geographic proximity. But longheld EU view - that similar level of access would require a higher bar on LPF/obligations - is also because EU & UK "trade like twins" as one senior EU official put it to me in 2017

    This is commonsense. If we want to start pitting our 'nation' against the EU, rather than simply allowing companies and individuals to compete on a level playing field, our geographical proximity & close links make that a problem, in a way that it is not in relation to Canada

    This wasn't key bit of Raab interview-consistent with BJ, Javid & Gove. What's new was misrepresentation of what EU has committed to in Political Declaration if UK opts for divergence. Govt is laying blame squarely in EU court for consequences of choice it is making

    Key quote from the Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab on -- agreeing to a level playing field on rules with the EU would 'defeat the point of Brexit.'

    What if Brexit Works? The case for Britain leaving the EU is a rejuvenated democracy and a supercharged economy. The political argument is stronger than the economic one.

    Will go further, as this is imp. To be precise - senior EU officials ALWAYS argued that obligations on UK would be higher for an equivalent or indeed inferior level of market access than Canada. Canada represented world outside CU, SM. Never equilibrium for UK obligations/access
