I thought I'd start today & the new week with a great favourite of mine: this is "The Bridge to the Pagoda, Victoria Park" by Albert Turpin from his post-war work.

Just told that the real problem with the BBC is that it played a key part in turning Farage from a fringe figure to a dominant politician. Those 35 appearances on BBC Question Time when he led a tiny party etc etc

Around 50 people including residents have gathered outside Winchester Tower in Norwich and are saying “thank you” to European friends in many languages - crystal clear message to whoever made THAT poster

The threats and bluster of our government on future relations with Europe stand in stark contrast to the graciousness of EU leaders. As so often, I am ashamed to be British

Aldeburgh appears to be split on Europe. Some want to keep the flag flying as normal ready for when we rejoin. Others like the residents of the old home of Benjamin Britten feel it should be flown at half mast. The don’t knows put out more bunting which is neither up nor down.

‘One day somebody will explain to me why it is that, at a time when science has never been wiser, or the truth more stark, or human knowledge more available, populists & liars are in such pressing demand’ John le Carré on Brexit - ‘it’s breaking my heart’

Good evening & thank you, very belatedly, I'm afraid. Yes, some things have just "got2 to be done, as they say. Here's one that I often feel has a "Sunday" feel to it: this is "Canonbury" by Harold Steggles from 1938.

‘The most spectacular medieval domestic kitchen in England’, Stanton Harcourt, 1417, partly rebuilt 1485. The smoke-blackened roof here so dark it kept absorbing my lights. Lyrically, Alexander Pope compared it to the Forge of Vulcan, ‘The horror of it’.

Without realising we were on brand for we pottered over to the abandoned church at Colston Bassett (Notts) again today. I took lots of architecturally useful images but this shot of the building really caught today's atmosphere of brooding moodiness.
