An election victory by Muqtada al-#Sadr will be a major setback for American foreign policy in #Iraq and by extension, #Syria. It will not be long before the new Iraqi government to demand the withdrawal of American/coalition forces from the country.https://twitter.com/RanjAlaaldin/status/995787439510904836 …

Muqtada's victory historic on many levels: this is someone who's always been in the shadow of his father, has been ridiculed, betrayed & confronted at every turn by his rivals, Iraq's armed forces, the US, Iran & members of his movement who went on to establish splinter groups. https://twitter.com/RanjAlaaldin/status/995784406534164485 …

Not only will this affect coalition support to the Iraqi Security Forces as they attempt to remove the last vestiges of #ISIS territorial holdings in #Iraq,, it may call unto question the continued US funding and equipping of these units.

It will also make it near impossible to support the #SDF in #Syria in their renewed offensive against #ISIS in the Dayr al-Zawr area. With #Iraq's cooperation, logistics and airspace issues will be obstacles to operations. Again - the big losers in both countries: the #Kurds.

When the US conquers you, you stay conquered! No one has the balls to the US troops and their weapons out of Iraq.

Which will disrupt the logistical lines to Syria, in which case supplies to the SDF. These election results could have far-reaching strategic consequences for the US. No doubt that Iran will try to shape the next coalition to fundamentally undermine the US in light of JCPOA-exit.

I'm missing how any of that is bad for the US.

From what I’ve been told he is anti American but it is curious he is warming up to Saudi and UAE. Sounds like a strange situation about to play out.

it does not make sense to me neither. He, indeed, supports Saudi Arabia and Arab's League idea, and since SA and UAE are pretty much under USA patronage, it won't be a problem for US, which turns out to be a problem for Iran.
