Given the urgent need for better clinical data and science about #COVID19 it is quite OK that papers are accepted and published soon - but showing patient names is NOT OK.
(sorry, this crap just makes me mad).

I am not going to link to the paper, but we need more eyes screening for these type of crappy papers. It seems that some authors care more about their authorship than careful processing of patient data. That is just wrong.

Writing an email to the journal/editor in chief/authors right now. I hope this can be fixed soon.

I really hope that I am wrong. Maybe these names are the name of the MD who ordered the test, or the technician who did the scan. But under the names are gender and age, which match with patient description in the paper, so they appear to be the patient names.

seriously wtf. But having got an MRI file once, the difficulty in actually removing info from them is also absurdly dumb.

In this particular case it would have just been a matter of cropping them, or putting a black rectangle over them. Seems not that hard.

No consequences ever on this data stuff or it wouldn't be so prevalent in all aspects of our lives.
