Surprisingly, it lists a lot of respectable microbiome scientists. It is hard to believe that they worked together with a series that claims "the source of 90% of all chronic disease: discovered". This is not true. It gives false hopes to people with chronic diseases.

Not surprisingly, this series is co-produced together with Viome, whose founder claims that he is making disease optional. If only it was so simple.

While it is true that the composition of our gut microbiome varies with a lot of diseases, we are still very far from curing those diseases. We often don't even know if the microbiome responds to the disease or if the disease is caused by an altered microbiome.

I am worried that this
#Interconnected series is going to spread a lot of over-interpreted conclusions. That it will give a lot of false hope to people with chronic diseases - or cancer.Show this thread -
I am worried that this series is going to consist of a lot of people who want you to buy their book. Or buy their supplements. They are the ones who will walk away happy. I am worried not a single person is going to be cured by this series.

I am worried that a lot of scientists, who do honest research - which is painstakingly slow - do not realize they have given their name to a documentary that might be full of quackery. Based on these titles there will be snake oil and woo.

Statements such as these suggest there will be lots of snake oil and woo. "how to harness the trillions of bacteria in your body to help resolve diabetes, heart disease, auto-immune disease, depression, dementia, and maybe even cancer".

Sure, some forms of T2 Diabetes can be cured by losing weight and eating more healthy. But we cannot yet cure dementia and auto-immune diseases (such as MS) with the microbiome. We might do one day, but not yet today.

This new
#Interconnected documentary series smells a lot like the Microbiome Medicine Summits I tweeted about in the previous years. The ones that recommended that you give a baby an enema to cure autism.Show this thread -
