Ergh, the underwriting struggle is real. Every time I even *look* at my mss, word count melts away. It's honestly a miracle that every novel doesn't just dissolve into flash fiction after a few revision passes.

A writer and fisherman open a shop. The fisherman makes a sign saying, "Fresh Fish Sold Here Today!" The writer says, "Of course they're fresh, of course we're selling them, of course it's here and now." She crosses out words til the sign says "Fish!" Sometimes it's all you need.

...and really, does she need that exclamation point?_?
The genre I was aiming for should be around 90k (so sayeth the experts). I think I will be clinging to 80k, when everything's done and dusted.1 reply 0 retweets 1 like

Metrics are overrated. Just tell the story and the rest will take care of itself.
