I'll be honest, I love flat Kansas. It's not all flat, not at all, but the vast stretches of prairie that reach out to the horizon are like a beautiful, swaying ocean dotted by little islands of small towns and grain elevators.

My dad was in the Air Force and we moved here from Okinawa, Japan when I was a kid. At first I hated that it wasn't like the tropical island we had just left, but it's a landscape that works subtly and elegantly.
