When will people understand our country is a sovereign nation? When will people start accepting asylum from the other countries they travelled through? When will people stop bringing children when committing illegal acts?

- No one is disputing this. But remember, our country was built by immigrants. - This, as much as anything, shows your lack of any real empathy. - When their conditions allow them to choose otherwise. If it was me, there isn’t much I wouldn’t do for my boys.

- our country was built by those who came here legally and didn't expect handouts, - empathy is for the children who are the victims of those who put them in harms way, - we all want better for our children, difference is I'm willing to work to provide that in my own country

”...in my own country.” You have no idea what these people are going through. Is the fact that these parents are doing this despite the clear danger in doing so not indicative of what they’re up against? We clearly have different definitions of the “shining city upon a hill”.

Well, hopefully we can get there. We need to. Call it compromise, common ground, whatever. It’s too important. I won’t quit, and I hope you won’t either.

In the meantime, let’s at least remember that seeking asylum isn’t a crime.
