Congress may not feel any urgency on healthcare costs, but state legislatures do. Every $ spent on health is $ not available for everything else. We are pleased to announce a new effort to help states bend the cost curve on hospital costs.

We find greatest disparities btw low- and high-income communities in suburban areas & for specialty docs. Those in low-income areas must travel farther to specialty but not GAC hospitals. W/ , Isabel Ostrer, Nancy Beaulieu via

We at HCCI know this is the time of year for Z62.891 (sibling rivalry) and W27.4XXA (contact with kitchen utensil, initial encounter), but we hope to continue seeing no claims for ICD-10 code W61.42XD (struck by turkey, subsequent encounter). Stay safe, and happy Thanksgiving!

. recommends starting with policies to address the most egregious cases. For example, set a cap of "Medicare plus X" on hospital rates where X is pretty "large," then add other measures for containment.

Sometimes health policy should be told in stories. Listen to , Bob Town and others describe one of the most important problems the health care system faces. Plus its entertaining (though a bit depressing)

I have been struggling with the appropriate reaction to this. I'm going with an exasperated 'WOW'. I cannot claim to understand the legal issues, but the implications for spending are not good. Reply with the tweet I should have sent.
