In this case, the Church believes that homosexual practice is incompatible with Christian teaching. The UMC agrees with the broad ecumenical consensus of classical orthodox Christianity for the past 2000 years. Surely it's fair to expect UM clergy to follow UM teaching.
Please explain how being a part of the LGBTQ community is incompatible with Christian teaching. I grew up a Christian and I was never taught that in Sunday school or during service.

Well, scripture is not silent re: homosexual behavior. Crucially for UM clergy, John Wesley’s New Testament Notes are official UM Doctrine, with authoritative interpretation, which all ordained UM clergy affirm as true & promise to teach & uphold.
