I read the article, but I did not see anything about 10+ feet of sea level rise. Is this your calculation, Dr. Mann?

First sentence (!): "Warm ocean water has been discovered underneath a massive glacier in West Antarctica, a troubling finding that could speed its melt in a region with the potential to eventually unleash more than 10 feet of sea-level rise."

I'm curious what that glacier-bottom water temperature would have been decades to centuries ago, & how much anthro forcing has changed that bottom water temperature.

Yes, those boring
@CO2>#globalheating basics have been clear enough for decades to justify action. For sea level and ice sheets, even more so (although rise by 2100 still murky). Cut CO2 and start designing adaptive coasts.https://dotearth.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/05/14/three-long-views-of-life-with-rising-seas/ … -

Any one know what time scale are probable?

No. That's the paradox, but

Terrible but not unsurprising news. We can't spike emissions as we have and not expect a reaction. Kia kaha to the scientists trying to fly the plane while it's being built. We have never needed science as much as now. As they've told us all along: stop emissions!

As usual, the modelling underestimates the actual. So much for being alarmist. Do Aussies understand that natural beaches will disappear? Sea walls won't save them, they will be putrid, and real estate will flip. Sought after <-> Not sought after.
-
Natural beaches are where they are now. And 12,000 years ago, they were 250' lower sea level, so out a few miles.
