One of the main takeaways from my #WITHPod convo w @drvox that’s central for climate is that the information and data don’t speak for themselves. The problem isn’t a lack of information or access to it. The problem is entirely social: Who people trust and why.

That's an oversimplification Chris. For some, climate change denial is ideological etc. But for others it IS a lack of awareness about the breadth and depth of the scientific consensus. There is peer-reviewed literature to prove it:https://www.theguardian.com/environment/climate-consensus-97-per-cent/2014/nov/20/why-we-need-to-talk-about-scientific-consensus-on-climate-change …

I think what he's saying is that it's not an information deficit as a problem. And while consensus messaging is strong I don't think conservatives deny the consensus numbers because they haven't heard it as much as they don't want to hear it.

So glad you're on the scene now! It feels like we're finally getting some pushback, especially on the "two sides" front.

I had a great (initially awkward) conversation on a Thanksgiving flight with a man who followed right-leaning media sources but genuinely wanted to know the truth. He had notes from a denier’s talk stored on his phone, but asked me about climate change & genuinely listened.

A lot of people aren't processing facts at all. They only notice who the message comes from. The liberal scientific left kind of owns Climate Change, so they oppose the idea. We have to detribalise it. Somehow.

The problem with that is that the conservative right kind of use lies as their stock in trade; from organized religion to campaign trail promises to blaming minorities for society's ills, the right-wing M.O. is "make the "facts" fit your narrative," not the other way around.
