My client walked out of Rikers Island today after a jury acquitted him of all charges. He waited in jail for his trial for 3 years. He lost his job and missed his son’s first 3 birthdays simply because he couldn’t afford bail. He’s not unique - THIS IS OUR SYSTEM. #reform

I’d be remiss not to take this opportunity to direct people to the critically important bail funds out there: @BKBailFund . Until we succeed in eliminating the abomination that is cash bail, it’s one great way to help. #endcashbail

Thanks for your work Michael.
I'm sure private practice would be significantly more lucrative.
Much respect and congratulations.

Kudos on your win. The system stinks. NY needs to end cash bail & enact speedy trial and discovery law reforms.
To do that, we need to flip the #NYSenate blue. Supporting senate candidates running for seats currently held by Republicans will make a difference.

It’s not our system. It’s New York’s system. In New Mexico recently a judge dismissed a murder case for lack of speedy trial. In a different county, child abuse suspects from compound were released on bail. Many systems do work. Just look outside NYC.
this is heartbreaking... true justice should include a relevant timeframe

I feel like the right to a speedy trial should be centered as much as the right to own an Uzi, but alas.
