I realized today how crucial of an intervention point this is. We're sold the lie that the two options in response to harm are 1) throw someone in a cage or 2) do nothing. Intervening in that lie and pointing out that there are other ways is key, I think.

The problem is buried in the “crime” justification. It’s generally assumed crime’s the sole reason for locking people up. Other motives include profit (running prisons); segregation of “others” (e.g. BIPOC, LGBTQ, political views); cheap labour

This is also a misconception w a lot of teachers. It's like, either suspend or do nothing. No concept that accountability and restoration can (+ should) happen in the school community!
