The foundation of 'involuntary celibacy' is misogyny, pure and simple. No one is owed sex.

One can be distressed about being in poverty without feeling one is "owed money".

And yet, incels believe they are owed sex. You CAN be distressed about being sexless without thinking you are owed it, but these people are not an example of that. Go take a peep at Reddit's r/braincels. You'll see.

I'm just disputing that it's foundationally linked to being 'incel' to be misogynist. It's not hard to find people in the group who seem to be merely sad or forlorn rather than hateful. Generalizing isn't warranted... think of the history of saying "Everyone in group X is a Y".

If we're talking about "incels" as in "Incel Rebellion" and that whole movement, then the OP is right and it is absolutely about misogyny. This isn't about "men in the general population who don't like being single."https://www.vox.com/world/2018/4/25/17277496/incel-toronto-attack-alek-minassian …

I'd never heard of "Incel Rebellion" and thought the term "incel" was just literally referring to people who were involuntarily celibate. Being specific is the best way to not lump together violent misogynists with your basic lonely sadsack.
