Why is it that large amounts of excitement and interest in a subject gets labeled as "cringey" or embarrassing? Does it represent lack of social awareness and shared contextual understanding? Have we just been taught that polite indifference is the best way to act around others?

I think aside from work there's a few things people are 'allowed' to be into. Sex, some gender specific shit (cars sports guns lifting vs fashion fitness arts, etc.), and a bunch of general shit like media. but even here, segmenting and profiling these markets, is capitalism

also I should clarify about my first answer - lots of people don't really know how to handle strong emotions and don't understand healthy vs unhealthy expressions due to the provenance of suppression. so they often lump all strong emotions being expressed as "unhealthy/childish"
