Unsure if the flippant "lol it's just a flu that kills old geezers" attitude is because younger people in the US hate their older family members / boomers, or their grandparents have already passed away...I am just lucky to still have a really sweet grandmother who I care about?

This apathy for elderly and ill / disabled individuals is probably a sign of how disconnected different generations of people are in America—I’ve gotten to know a couple of older individuals and death doulas through attending Death Cafe events and I sincerely hope they’re safe

It’s a pretty unusual social group for a twenty-something to want to hang out with but I find it a really fulfilling mode of interaction alongside my typical college student escapades

Yep—statistics and news updates don’t naturally lead to emotional response. In general we can try to ply and plead with people, but it’s impossible (or at least very coercive) to force anyone to have an experience of caring. Good time for me to learn this lesson, huh...
