And scary! I mean guys get bullied and targeted and stuff too but sheesh. You want some real fun times, try being a woman and getting a group of dudes pissed off at you who have time and resources at hand and see how much fun it is. It can be so very intense.

And it’s not just because they don’t like you but some people REALLY celebrate going after women in a way you just don’t see with guys. Stepping out, just on its own, can be an invitation to be torn down because HOW DARE YOU.

There’s a whole lot of sexism wrapped up in it and indignation that someone made people feel less than, but more specifically that a WOMAN made them feel that way and women are supposed to be inferior, didn’t you get the memo? It’s an affront to insecure ego.

I speak from firsthand experience of tangling with certain guys, one in particular I can think of, who really didn’t appreciate that I threatened his sense of superiority at all. Even though he could beat me. The audacity was that I had the nerve to shake him a little.

It’s frustrating. Anyway, I applaud her.

On a related note, this thread reminded me about how I really used to enjoy reading Kathy Sierra’s blog back in college. I was so mad when she got driven off of the internet by targeted harassment. It’s par for the course these days and part of why I try to be pseudonymous.

But I hate that being female makes you more of a target just because some people can’t get over their own egos. It’s really annoying. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kathy_Sierra …

And MAN do people hate it when you talk about this stuff. In part people are sick about hearing about it. It makes guys twitchy because they go “oh shit she’s one of THOSE girls” I get the fear But what am I gonna do, not talk about it? Have you met me?

There’s a big part of this that also comes down to straight up envy by men of the perceived advantages women get in society and some of those advantages are very real! I certainly appreciate being female at various times. I’m a fan.

But like everything else in life it’s easy to overlook the less fun parts of the life you might be jealous of for whatever reason It’s not a good look My point is we should have more empathy for everyone

I appreciate how sincere this thread is, it's hard to openly discuss. When I try to describe this paranoia about being scrutinized, having to mind and alter my image to not be "one of those girls," it seems like it's dismissed because we should be *grateful* for attention

If women (beautiful, outspoken women in this case) are drowning in a deluge of attention, some men see themselves as stranded in a desert, dying of thirst for attention and significance, and do not understand why any woman would ever complain about having too much water.
