have zero remaining friends that I originally met in high school. have exactly one remaining friend that I originally met in college. almost all of my friends now are from things I started as an adult. how typical is this? is it uncommon? do people hold on to childhood forever?https://twitter.com/TaylorPearsonMe/status/1229485664342806529 …

> "it felt like I outgrew them mentally" this is a major point. I've experienced that very intensely in a lot of relationships and chose to let them fade away on purpose. I guess I'm surprised at how apparently rare that is?

Wow, yeah, I’m glad to hear from someone else who has had the same experience when it is...foreign to most. During childhood I had the distinct sense that all my relationships had an expiration timer, and trying to sustain them past that timer would force a fit that didn’t work.

Having to move around more may be the proximate cause, but my mom immigrated all the way from China and STILL keeps in touch with friends from her old high school there. Not sure how she does it
