There's a very big difference between relying on a coping mechanism because it's the only option you have, and having a *good* way of coping.

I've had to forgive myself for having relied on and used coping mechanisms and habits that are now really unhealthy, because I didn't have any other ways out at the time—while needing to move on and find something better now that I do have options.
