I’ve never been able to assume that I became who I am separate from my environment, or the people around me. In my case, it is for the better, but I am sometimes plagued with thoughts about how bad it could have become.

A bleak example, but I know that some people argue if they had been born in Nazi Germany, they never would have become a Nazi or agreed with their doctrine. I don’t know what within a person’s mind or spirit allows them to state that with such confidence.
