It seems almost perverse to be happy without such markings of success (wealth, beauty, status, etc.), and when happiness is labeled as a "normie value," it makes sense that people will begin to resent the wish to attain it.

But positive emotional states have so much more depth and breadth than that superficial correlation suggests. Seems to me that we're about as skeptical of radical joy / exultation as we are of deep depression or grief.
