Heraclitus’ actual river quote (or one of its more credible translations) is far more paradoxical and beautiful than the popular version: “Into the same rivers we step and do not step, we are and are not.”

"God is dead" most definitely deserves to be read in its full context as well. The whole aphorism is amazingly beautiful.
