Never cared for Greenlight as a way to filter games, I've found the average quality on Steam going down, so hopefully Steam Direct can help

I hear your concern, that's high. But Ii the quality of games continues to decrease, I'll spend less money on trying new games.

so maybe its for the best if it results in better curated content on the platform, which would cause me to buy more games.

I can see where you're coming from. Just seems like it could hurt smaller developers w/o much capital. Especially VR devs.
