There’s so many moments in the first season where if he just listened to people who pleaded with him to do something unpleasant there would be a bunch of people still alive.

Poor guy was just trying to keep the peace. He never wanted to rule nor would have been good at it so when Robert died he just overcorrected and assumed he could keep the Lions at bay. He.. could not. His biggest mistake was underestimating Cersei
