When I fight for a $15 minimum wage I fight for my younger self, a girl fresh out of college making $3.50/hr as a waitress at night while working an unpaid internship during the day. I lived with my mom, I was lucky. We should be making a better world for the next generation.
And yes that's right, $3.50/hr. If you get tips they're allowed to play you below minimum wage.

I discovered this when I went to college in the midwest - our laws are different in California and it blew my mind. Such low wages should not be legal, that's absurd. Workers should be able to earn a living wage with jobs like these!
I almost tweeted a very similar string. About a year before I got hired at twitch I made $2.75/hr as a waitress from my employer and had to bust my ass for the rest of my income through tips. I was 26 and a single mom - this needs to be better
here to cosign as team "I made $2.13/hr and my earnings were literally in the hands of entitled people who thought I was worth less than tar in the bottom of a barrel" but with an added bonus of that was one of 3 jobs I held to *get by*.

I worked on a dairy farm in Ohio for a summer. Hardest work I've ever done for $4.25 and hour before taxes. No tips. In 2007. And honest, hard job, but no way to make a living. I worked a full month for the God of War special edition red psp.
