It's difficult to perceive negative reactions to influencers of any size getting free games/merchandise/hardware as anything other than jealousy.

I would just encourage you to not see these "attacks" as "personal" and see them as people's inability to reconcile the system they live in with the promise of that system, that "hard work = reward." Because that's NOT and NEVER HAS BEEN the truth in a capitalist society.
I appreciate your opinion on this and sharing it with me. I will do that. I still feel there's no excuse for harassment of an individual because of an improper system. If people are angry with Nike for giving things away that's one thing, but yelling at an athlete is another.

If I'm that athlete, it's on me (outside of dangerous situations) to just understand their anger, even if directed "at me," isn't "at me." That's part of "my job" in those cases, or at the very least, makes me BETTER at "my job" overall. The main point is to not be dismissive of—

—their anger and further the divide between my position and theirs. And in all honesty, I'd be like "Yeah man, it sucks, I don't really deserve this, and you should also have what I have, and the system sucks, and thanks for following/etc."
