Actually, adoption through the states is nearly free. Private adoption is the problem. We are all to familiar with the states adoption, private adoption and IVF. @babiesforheroes
The price of adoption in this country is way to high; we need to find ways to lower the burden so more middle class couples can afford to adopt. More mothers would choose to put their children up for adoption- rather than abort them - if they knew they would be taken care of.

I totally agree with you on this! 15 years ago it was going to cost us $30k+ to adopt internationally or be required to be foster parents with no guarantee that we would ever get to adopt. My brother has been trying to adopt a little girl for over 3 years! Our system is broken.
