1/ We prefer to work with organisations to effect change, and some of that needs to be based upon information. We are going to review this thread and look at ways we can take the very angry and heartfelt responses and use them to inform our work with the Police.

2/ We are already looking at a Hate Crimes post, and our legal caseworker, who is also trans, supports families and young people up to 19 if they have any issues around reporting hate, or indeed prejudice from within the Police.

3/ This demonstrates how much work still needs to be done. I am not sure that we are best placed, due to the age range we support, to do this. It has given us food for thought, certainly. Our perspective is entirely UK based as an UK charity, does this need a global lead?

How does this apply to transgender groups that work with people specifically targeted for police victimisation, like sex workers and immigrants?
-
We support up to and including 19 so some of these issues are outside of our remit, we do however recognise that we do not engage with young people in marginalised groups, and are working to remedy this.

Sorry can't agree. In SW England we've a SERIOUS problem with the police as their engagement has seldom erred from being disingenuous & only for THEIR benefit. There's a MAJOR problem with wilful neglect because they'll only engage with those who'll tick their engagement boxes
-
Really sorry to see that, it is not the experience we have had with the forces we have worked with, but obviously we can only speak for the engagement we have had.

This is deeply disappointing. The trans community faces regular harassment and violence from police around the globe. We need intercommunity support - not police monitoring.
