A leader of the right-wing populist Sweden Democrats party submitted a draft motion calling for a ban on non-medical circumcision of boys, which the text defined as “backward” child abuse.https://jewishnews.timesofisrael.com/swedish-far-right-party-submits-motion-calling-for-brit-milah-ban/ …
Absolutely it is. But all over Europe with the rise of the new radical right, we're seeing motions being put forward to ban kosher and halal slaughter, circumcision, religious items of clothing for 'security' reasons...

Perhaps we should actually address issues like circumcision, then? Shying away and refusing to acknowledge the outraged victims only gives power to the radical right. The people who care about this issue will flock to them, because they're the only ones willing to listen. :/

What I'm saying is, by acknowledging and adressing the real human (and animal) rights violations, it undermines the racist bigot front by taking away from them the only legitimate complaints they ever had. When all they're left with is baseless hatred, they will die off.

It is being discussed - including within the Jewish community https://jewishnews.timesofisrael.com/the-jewish-parents-cutting-out-the-bris … but as long as Jews, or any minority for that matter feel under threat, and as if there's a wider attack on their traditions, the fundamentals will always be defended first (kashrut, brit)

Forced marriages are a tradition too. Just because something has been done for hundreds or thousands of years doesn't mean it is a custom that needs to be preserved.

any unconsented surgery without medical indication is a blatant violation of human rights. Performed in infants is still more barbaric. If someone wants to be circumcised for religion, let him decide when is 18 yo. Free decision, no coertion.

Terraxa, it isn't quite that straightforward. Sometimes intervention is cosmetic but much easier and less painful whilst a child is very young. Cases in point: braces, ear piercings, as well as circumcision (for which there are some medical benefits as well as risks).

Is still less painful if not done (except for clear medical necessity). It isn't a pain matter, It's about human rigts
