What are some influential and pervasive anti-competitive practices that organizations get away with? Many examples out there, but I'm looking for more.

"I know you from Twitter" - Embarrassing for everyone involved - Humiliating - Too online "Your reputation precedes you" - Cool and scary - Mysterious - Potentially ominous - Old-timey villian

I am increasingly persuaded, eg by Sue Blackmore (The Meme Machine) & (all his recent books) that memes are even more important than I dreamed. Meme/gene coevolution probably explains human brain enlargement, origin of language + much else that makes us human.

Why is Memetics so underdeveloped as a field? It obviously has immense potential. There seems to be a quagmire that traps people who investigate it. I gotta study more, I know there's a way through the muck.

Your epistemology should serve YOU. Don’t settle for what other people tell you, find out for yourself, as best as you can. Elitists imagine that this leads to “biased thinking”. They are projecting.

Twitter's superpower is that it allows you to ship, and thus iteratively improve, very, very quickly. You can exploit this to use it for anything - from practicing your writing to experimenting with new selves.

What the hell is the world coming to? A period of crisis. Kinda surprised to be vindicated so much in the first month though...

The fundamental reason internet mediums are better than broadcast mediums is feedback. 'Many to many' is better than 'one to many'. The internet allows people to immerse themselves in complex systems of thought. Instead of getting fed thoughts, get feedback on YOUR thoughts.

Attrition vs runaway signalling. Negative feedback vs positive feedback. Notably, the negative feedback of attrition only begins once the fighting does. The preceding arms race and escalating tension is a positive feedback loop.

I put on my hazmat, it's important to limit exposure to virulent pathogens. Virulent memes, on the other hand, are best quashed with memetic vaccination and exposure therapy. The hazmat suit avatar is a perfect example, in a few days it'll be lame.

The destruction of the tower of Babel was the result of a deliberate detonation, in order to save humanity from a conceptual virus that was spreading rapidly due to homogeneous language

One feature of this is the ability of fresh mutations to get past people's memetic immune response. They are inoculated against the common, but vulnerable to the novel. Influence = Influenza

An idea can be a passing interest, or it can become an obsession. When pursued obsessively, new traits may evolve. These traits may allow the meme to spread much farther than before. This is what influential thinkers do. They mutate an idea in their mind, and then spread it.

Memes don't only spread and evolve between minds, they do so within minds. When someone arrives at new ideas through their own thinking, we call it intellectual development. It could also be called memetic mutagenesis.
