“I will vote for the Democratic nominee, whoever it may be” is saying “you do not need to earn my vote; I will settle for whatever you force on me.” That’s not democracy. If there are no repercussions for those manipulating the levers of power, nothing will ever change.

I don’t disagree with that in any way - we may be talking around each other at this point. The Democratic Party also turned its back on labor years ago, which is why so many disaffected whites in former blue states now reliably vote Republican.
Thus is true. Labor was a huge loss for the Dems in 2016. Blacks were not exactly enchanted by Clinton so turnout was low compared to previous years.

I would presume this had more to do with gender and race than perceived failure in support for labor. But, I need empirical evidence to support this before making it a conclusion.

Yes, and that’s all I was ever trying to say. I try to be very careful wth my wording on Twitter, so if my tweet sounds as if it were saying anything otherwise, I apologize and I will aim to be more cogent in the future.
