Economic stress rang loud and clear on my NY27 campaign trail. This year banks will make 34 billion dollars on overdraft fees. Taking money from people who don’t have any! We must do better! Policies must be put in place to protect regular people.

I worked for banks before I retired, most overdraft fees are caused by the consumer who is not paying close attention to their accounts, forgetting monthly charges fro Netflix, Hulu etc

This is true. However, the cost are burdensome on seniors with restricted income, poor college students and families with few resources. People said they went ahead and paid their car note even when their acct. was empty because they had to get to work.

You can always work it out with your creditors to have funds withdrawn on paydays etc. , I agree though, most banks charge way to much for overdraft fees, they don’t have to be so damn high

True. But what if all the money is already gone? And most ppl do not realize they can negotiate with the bank to get fees decreased or dismissed. I would love to see banks return a portion of the funds at year end once the acct. is balanced to encourage fiscal responsibility.

I couldn’t agree more. Cutting taxes is a must.
